What does it look like?

Alpha is run across the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs online, in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but they all have three key things in common: hospitality, a talk and good conversation. 

Share a Meal
Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick coffee catch-up, times of connecting are important. It’s no different at Alpha. All sessions start with a time to connect, relax and build friendships, around a dinner table.

Watch a Talk
The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Each talk is around thirty minutes long and played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Chat
One of the most important parts of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic and discuss in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Invite someone to Alpha

Jesus is always at work drawing people to himself and He uses people like you to partner with Him in this work. Alpha is a great next step for anyone in their journey toward Jesus and we’d encourage you to pray for and invite them along.

How to invite someone to Alpha

If you would like to invite someone to Alpha here’s a step-by-step way to do it:

Step one: Get praying! Who is in your life that you could invite along? A friend? A neighbour? A co-worker or a family member?

Step two: Grab an invite on Sunday or invite someone to sign up at whitbychristian.com/events.

Step three: Chat with the person you would like to invite and invite them! Let them know you’ll follow up with the details and if they’re unsure, offer to join them for an Alpha session.

Step four: Follow up by giving them an invite and offering to help them register.

Step five: Keep praying!

Get involved with Alpha

1.    Invite people to come to Alpha (see above)

2.    Pray leading up to and during Alpha – pray for God to lead you to who he would have you invite and pray for them during Alpha

3.    Serve at Alpha as part of the hospitality team, a discussion leader, a group helper, prayer team or kitchen team

4.    Financially contribute to support Alpha at Whitby Christian
